What is missing in the world of treatment for chronic pain?

I finally found a place that I am not judged or shamed for having chronic pain. Not only am I not overwhelmed, but I am also gaining a sense of mastery and confidence over my body. I am not afraid to live in it. Through the bodywork that Terrie does, I am noticing less rigidity, tension, and fear in my body, which is already making a significant difference in my severe belly pain. I am learning the lifestyle changes I need to make for my healing from the prolonged pain complex. I can see a different future for myself, and I am thrilled.

The current frontline treatments for chronic pain are:

  • Prescribing opiates, which can lead to addition/deregulations of an individual’s entire physiology and life.

  • Invasive procedures/surgeries, which can lead to weakened structures in the body and worsening of the soft tissue imbalance.

Terrie Carpenter understands the human body at such a high level and actually taught me how my body works. The prolonged pain complex model of care allowed me to interpret my pain differently. I now understand the profound importance of self-care and cellular restoration. Terrie’s unique hands-on work for quieting my nervous system and rebalancing my muscles and movement has literally gotten me back on my feet. I am living more fully and with less pain. Terrie, you have given me so much hope for my future, and I appreciate it more than I can say!

These treatment options have created legions of suffers who have been trained to:

  • Be passive recipients of treatment

  • Expect someone of some substance to be a quick fix for their pain

  • Experience a disconnect between mind, body, and spirit

  • To believe,” I’m my pain, and it defines who I am.”

So…what is missing in the currently available treatment for chronic pain?

A complete paradigm shift that includes:

  • Non-medication pain management treatment, training, and education for clients and their families

  • Advocacy for compassionate and collaborative medical care

  • Soft tissue and adaptive movement

Allies for Change was created to fill these gaps. Our non-medication methodologies have been developed over several decades of clinical experience and behavioral change research. We work from a foundation of evaluating the whole person and every factor that might contribute to their pain complex.

In addition to direct patient care and education we teach and train other health professionals in learning these new ways of assessing and treating those individuals suffering. This enables practitioners to have compassion for those who come under their care.

Then they are able to empower their patients:

  • To become active participants in their healing process

  • Understand that “if I have pain it is a signal from my body to change something and take good care of myself”

Invest in my book for a simple overview of all of the non-medication pain management strategies.
